Use our genetic resources

The CRB-Leg makes its resources available to researchers and the community.

Genetic resource requests are either carried out directly on the SIReGal website (restricted list), or by using the free enquiry form at the bottom of this page. By ordering, the applicant agrees to use genetic resources in accordance with the current legislation and regulations.

Genetic resources available

Some of the genetic resources available at CRB-Leg are presented on the SIReGal database, as well as in various European catalogues. The contents of these catalogues are indicative and the availability of genetic resources may change at any time. Please note that you will find in these lists marketed varieties that we do not distribute.

Material provided

Distribution is usually in the form of seeds. The amount is standardised to 20 seeds per sample (subject to available stock). We provide one accession once only to the same user. Thus if you need more seeds, you will have to multiply this accession by yourself, in compliance with the Material Transfer Agreement.

The CRB-Leg can sometimes provide larger quantities of seeds or other types of materials (DNA, tissue) on request.

Associated documents

After the feasibility of your order has been studied (available quantity, germination status, regulatory aspects), a Material Transfer Agreement (MTA) will be sent. It needs to be signed and returned in duplicate before your order can be processed.

Furthermore, depending on the destination country, you may also need to provide an import permit, without which the seeds could be destroyed by the quarantine services when entering your country.

Ordering period and deadlines

The CRB-Leg is busy with multiplications during summer so the period for seed requests extends from October 1st to April 1st of the following year. Any requests received outside this period will have to be repeated during the next ordering period.

During the ordering period, seeds orders are generally processed within one month after reception of all necessary paperwork (MTA, phytosanitary certificate, import permit...).

Costs

Biological resources in the form of seeds are available free of charge to the applicant. The CRB-Leg only charges for the preparation and shipping costs (15€/accession) for applications of more than 10 accessions per year.

Tracking of orders

The tracking of orders allows the CRB-Leg to trace the species and accessions requested. An average of 4800 samples are distributed annually for the needs of public (43%) or private (51%) research and to various associations and amateurs (6%).
