Plant breeding & Innovation

Varietal innovation at GAFL is a part of a long history, illustrated by emblematic creations such as the ‘Gariguette’ strawberry (1974), recognised by consumers, or the ‘Montfavet H63-5’ tomato (1977) that is still cultivated by many amateur gardeners. Recent innovations are related to the Prunus and the Tomato. For the Prunus, it entails new varieties of apricots, peaches and their root-stock. They incorporate disease resistance into the varietal ranges as requested by producers. For the tomato, it involves varieties of industrial tomatoes and for organic agriculture and the amateur market.
