Eggplant CIRAD + privé n°2 (2019 - 2022)

Genetic mapping of resistance to bacterial wilt of eggplant accession E3

Since 2008, a collaborative research on the resistance of solanaceous crops to the Ralstonia solanacearum species complex (RSSC) is ongoing between CIRAD and INRA. Several private partners joined these researches along the time, via specific conventions (2008-2010; 2019-2021) and a CASDAR project (2013 à 2015). Mapping of the resistance factors of several eggplant accessions controlling different phylotypes and strains has been undertaken. One of the objective of the ongoing researches is to identify in different sources a set of resistance factors controlling different strains types, and to develop markers in order to build up stable and large spectrum resistances, by pyramiding. The research project 2019-2022 focuses on the resistant accession E3 with the following objectives :

- phenotyping a population of doubled haploids obtained from a F1 hybrid between E3 and the susceptible parent E8, inoculated with African and Reunion island strains belonging to phylotype IIB-1,

- genotyping by sequencing the factors controlling E3 resistance to these strains,

 - mapping the resistance factors and developing markers suitable for a breeding program,

-  comparing E3 resistance factors with those of the accessions E4, E6 et E9 that were/will be identified in former or ongoing projects.
